World Challenge is aware of the earthquake which has struck the Mount Kinabalu area of Borneo.
We currently have no teams in-country with the next school due to arrive on the island on 11 June.
With the earthquake happening at around 07:15 local time today (00:15 BST), the extent of the disruption is still being ascertained.
There are currently no plans to divert teams away from Borneo, but with a number of schools due to climb Mount Kinabalu, there may be a necessity to look at alternative trekking options. We are closely monitoring the situation.
We utilise a number of government and security agencies as well as our own knowledgeable in-country agent network to keep us abreast of developments.
The schools and parents concerned will be contacted immediately with regards to the current situation and will be updated as and when more information comes to light.
World Challenge’s highest priority is the safety of our participants. Over the last 27 years we’ve worked hard to develop an excellent reputation for our approach to safety and how we operate in over 40 destinations around the world.
