Why do you feel the World Challenge expedition was a benefit to your son?
It has been Tom and myself for such a long time now so the trip helped cut those apron strings a little. The experience of travelling was amazing for him as was experiencing new and different cultures, food and wildlife.
How do you think the trip will help Tom’s future success and development?
Tom wants to study animal management so he had a good opportunity to see different species of animals out in Madagascar.
There was also a lot of teamwork involved which he really benefited from and I know the community project was a huge hit with him. He was so pleased he could help those less fortunate than himself.
How did Tom prepare for the trip?
Tom really learnt to value money and his fundraising efforts included clothes recycling, car boot sales, an abseil and bag-packing whilst eBay-ing anything he could get his hands on! That element has really helped stand him in good stead for the future.
How did you find World Challenge throughout the programme?
I made a few telephone calls to World Challenge and they were always very helpful – nothing was too much trouble and they encouraged us to ring any time.
I’d definitely recommend them. I’ve spoken to some other parents who have children of a similar age and I’ve advised them to jump at the opportunity if it presents itself.
