How it works
The story of your expedition unfolds over time, and we support you through each exciting stage
A World Challenge expedition starts long before the date of departure, with planning, team building, fitness training and fundraising being important aspects of the preparations. The actual expedition is made up of four further phases: Acclimatisation, Trekking, Project and Rest & Relaxation. After your return, we like to come and see you and hear about your trials and triumphs on expedition and life lessons learned.
Launch to Departure
Itinerary Planning Meeting
A Programme Facilitator meets Challengers and their parents to pin down the perfect itinerary and ensure everyone understands what happens in the lead-up to departure. Parents are invited for an update at the end of the meeting.
Expedition Skills Meeting (3wk+ expeditions only)
The team, teachers and Programme Facilitator meeting is to plan the menu for the upcoming Training Expedition.
Training Expedition (3wk+ expeditions only)
This is a camping experience for Challengers that encourages team bonding and develops the essential practical skills for expedition life. It covers risk management, hygiene, safety scenarios, cooking, and camp craft.
Adventure Workshop (2wk and less expeditions only)
This is run by the Programme Facilitator to provide Challengers with some practical advice and expedition skills. It covers topics such as fundraising, team equipment, health and hygiene, security and destination-related topics.
Enjoy a rich experience overseas through the challenges and rewards of four distinct phases: acclimatisation, trekking, project, and rest & relaxation.*
