What makes World Challenge different?

Why go on a school trip when you can go on a World Challenge?
There are many reasons to choose World Challenge over the other providers claiming to be “just like World Challenge”.

No other provider offers the depth of learning outcomes delivered by our personal development syllabus, the scale of safety and back-up provided by the Operations Centre or the level of customer support provided to teachers, students and parents. The level of investment required to do this is simply out of reach of any small expedition provider.

World Challenge are different! Developing young people
The World Challenge Programme™ establishes a wide range of learning outcomes and as a registered ASDAN Centre, students can earn up to 70 UCAS points. Our expedition leaders ‘lead from behind’, facilitating students to work as a self contained team so they can learn from mistakes and enjoy the personal rewards of success.

All inclusive
No hidden fees, we guarantee no flight surcharges and you can keep the expedition tents we provide you with. We don’t even charge to enter the fundraising ‘Challenger Runs’.
Big is beautiful...
…at least in our industry anyway! World Challenge is part of TUI Travel Plc, a FTSE 100 company and the world’s largest travel company. Apart from having the financial backing of industry experts, our size means we can offer better support and investment while our staff members only handle a small number of schools each.
Your School Support Coordinator is there to help you, but we also have a Fundraising Support Team and a Customer Support Team to handle enquiries from students and parents, so you don’t have to. What’s more, every school has its own web portal with personal log-ins for everyone involved.

In safe hands
Our comprehensive safety and back-up provision is what we’re renowned for. All aspects are covered from industry leading bespoke medical insurance, a 24-hr staffed Operations Centre, the latest satellite communications equipment, a rapid response team to fly out to you if needed, our own Western Union Terminal and even ‘Hubs’ where full time World Challenge staff are also present in-country when expeditions are taking place to support the teams and carry out research.
The difference on a World Challenge

We keep all our back-up support in-house so we can promise to be there when you need us, we’re compliant with British Standard 8848, are the only provider to have been independently assessed by the Young Explorers’ Trust and are ATOL protected.

Great teacher benefits
None of the usual school trip headaches; we liaise with parents, collate all monies and do all the risk assessments. We don’t drain school resources, including teachers’ time thanks to our School Support Coordinators. Of course teachers travel for free (1:8), can claim a free first aid course and also have access to a valuable CPD programme. We also offer the largest discounts in the industry on clothing and equipment from Cotswold Outdoor and inoculations from Nomad Travel Medicine.

About World Challenge Full support
Teachers, students, parents, Expedition Leaders and Local Authorities have logins to their own personal expedition website to monitor progress at any time. Our staff manage a small number of client schools each and are based locally to you, they will know your school and you requirements and therefore how to support your needs. Above and beyond this, our dedicated Customer Support Team will answer parents’ and Challengers’ questions so you don’t have to.

Expedition pedigree
Since 1987, we’ve only ever organised expeditions for young people through schools, so all decisions are based on invaluable experience. No one has taken more young people trekking at altitude by a significant margin; we understand the risks, how to combat them and crucially how to deal with the unexpected.

Available to all
Even with the current economic turbulence, we remain devoted to ensuring that our expeditions should be available to all. We are mindful of the economy but we are confident that our expedition range is wide enough and our Money Management Programme effective enough to have something for all budgets.

We encourage students to raise their own money to fund their trip as this is just as much a part of the educational experience as the expedition itself. We support them in this goal by offering a unique money management programme complete with organised fundraising events and a dedicated team providing expert advice along the way. Research has shown us that parents value our expeditions very highly for the benefit they can give their children and see a World Challenge as an investment in their future.
