The trekking phase

Trekking with World Challenge
The trekking phase of a World Challenge expedition is for many the most physically and mentally testing part of the entire expedition. It truly stretches the team, turning a disparate group of individuals into a united team.

Choosing your trek
With over 50 expedition destinations to choose from the team can stipulate the type of environment and level of physical challenge they want to take on.

You could be trekking in the desert, the jungle or on camels! Through savannahs and plains or in mountain ranges - the choice is yours. Our expedition planning team will work with you to ensure you have the experience you want and source appropriate routes for the team. They have extensive knowledge of the trekking opportunities in the country you are travelling to and also an established network of local contacts.

Preparation

Whatever the level of challenge you chose, it is important for the team to ensure they are fit to enjoy the experience to the full. World Challenge organise sponsored events for the Challengers in the build-up to the expedition, which not only help with fundraising but also training for the trekking phase. We also give advice on getting and keeping fit.

Aim of the trek
The aim of the trek is to unite the team through physical and mental challenges, the like of which most of them will never have experienced before; pushing themselves to new limits and realising how much they can achieve if they put their minds to it. They will also get to experience leading the group and develop important decision making and leadership skills.

Leading the trekking group
Our expedition leaders are there to guide the team but take a step back and let the Challengers take the lead on most of the decisions during the phase like what to eat, when and how much to when to start the day and how many stops to make and where. The leaders are always on hand to advise and ensure the team is safe and on track.
