Travel benefits for teachersSome teachers are thinking twice about planning class trips these days even though they believe that such trips are essential for helping students progress.
Considerations such as administration, the cost to parents, discipline and the responsibility of young people overseas are undoubtedly barriers but they are barriers that can be overcome. This is particularly the case when you’re working with a company like World Challenge who have years of experience in overseas school expeditions.
Support from World ChallengeWe offer a full support programme for teachers, schools and students that takes a minimum amount of time and energy on your part. Our operations staff are able to communicate with in-country agents on your behalf to ensure safety and security at all times during the expedition.
Other support includes safety and back up from our 24 hour operations centre, regionally based support staff, a dedicated fundraising support team for students, customer services to deal with student and parent queries and a members’ website to deal with all your expedition admin.
Real educational value
In addition to helping students build interpersonal skills like communication, emotional understanding and team work, school trips are considered by Ofsted to be powerful tools for significantly raising achievement. According to a recent government manifesto school trips also help families to bond and help students to develop a much needed sense of the world around them.
|Claire Davidson, previous School Leader and winner of a National Teaching Award, from The Ridgeway School, Malawi and India (Himalaya) offered her insights on what World Challenge did for her students:
“It has brought their education to life, enriched them and made my job all the more fascinating. Engaging the interest of the students has also help to contextualise their learning, and I am convinced that this has had a direct impact on their achievement too. I have a lot of which to thank World Challenge.”
The trip will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on you too and is definitely one of the more pleasurable ways of developing your Continuing Professional Development portfolio!
We have set up partnerships with Cotswold Outdoor, travel guides from Lonely Planet and inoculations from Nomad Travel Medicine to entitle anyone going on a World Challenge expedition to discounts on clothing and equipment.
|Teachers travel for free
On World Challenge expeditions teachers travel for free and we offer one fully funded staff place for every 8 students on the trip to ensure students get all the support they need on their expedition.
World Challenge will also communicate directly with the parents of students coming on the trip to handle payments so teachers don’t have to spend their time chasing down fees.
Country familiarisation visits
In addition to this you will have the opportunity to go on country familiarisation visits and watch your students develop and learn in a completely new environment.
