Project
Project Uganda is an expedition suited to schools who wish to focus on their project work. Teams will spend approximately 10 days on their project during their expedition, which will allow them to become truly involved in the community they are based in. Teams will be generally be camping within the school they are assisting in for the duration of the project phase. The project phase offers Challengers a wonderful opportunity to mix with the extremely friendly local people and to learn a lot about Ugandan culture.
Projects are community based and involve taking part in construction and renovation projects at a number of extremely poor primary and secondary schools in the region. Teams may, for example, help to build a classroom, or help to paint or rebuild an already existing school. Challengers will also be able to organise sports games and lessons with the community they are based in.
Trekking options
Teams will be able to complete one or two short treks during their expedition. They could visit some of the many lakes in south west Uganda. Here they will be able to complete a series of day walks through savannah and acacia woodland, whilst observing unique and important wetland habitats in the area. Alternatively they can complete the two day Buwata community trail, based in the foothills of the Ruwenzori Mountain range.
Rest and relaxation
Rest and relaxation in Uganda is spread throughout the expedition. Teams can visit Queen Elizabeth National Park where there are opportunities for game walks. They could go white water rafting at the source of the river Nile (although this would incur an additional cost) or alternatively the expedition could finish off on the beaches of Lake Victoria or on one of the islands in the lake.
