Partner Ghana school partnership
School partnerships are a fantastic way to engage with pupils and teachers in another part of the world, sharing projects and experiences whilst learning about each other’s lives. The Sabre Trust is a grassroots charity working in the UK and Ghana to facilitate long term relationships between partner schools, which foster greater cultural awareness and understanding in both communities. All of our Partner Ghana schools are located in the KEEA District, a rural district on Ghana’s Southern coast. In the UK we will assist you to bring Ghanaian culture and tradition into school, though music, drama and the arts.
As the partnership develops, you will undertake joint projects with your partner school, sharing lessons and linking for live discussions over the internet.
There is an annual partnership fee to cover Sabre costs of running termly partnership meetings and liaising closely with the teacher responsible for the partnership (who might be different to the teacher working with the visiting project team) and will do the same with the partner schools in Ghana. They will facilitate all the partnership activity ie pen pals, video links, shared projects, themed assemblies and lessons etc. They will provide a resource pack including ideas for assemblies, lesson plans, joint projects, ideas on how to fund the school costs and how to use this to achieve the International Award. They will also facilitate the reciprocal teacher visits.
Reciprocal teacher visits are strongly recommended as an invaluable development opportunity and a way of really cementing the relationship between the two schools. The UK school will need to cover all flights and in-country costs for both the UK and Ghanaian teacher. It is recommended that one visit happens each year by either the UK teacher or the Ghanaian teacher. If the UK teacher is the teacher accompanying the project team then this can be doubled up. It is assumed that the host school will organise accommodation and food at minimal cost.
Partner Ghana project expeditions
A project expedition is the perfect way to experience life in Ghana first hand and take your partnership to a whole new level. This includes a programme from World Challenge of termly meetings and a training day with the team to help them choose, plan and prepare for their project, prepare for the different culture and environment and fundraise the money required to cover their individual costs. It is expected that a team will run on an 18 month cycle and a team from the school will visit the partner school annually.Costs include: all pre departure training and support, flights, in-country costs including food, accommodation and cultural visits, leader, group kit, medical insurance and emergency back up.
Costs do not include: vaccinations, visas, personal kit and insurance of personal kit and travel to UK departure airport.
The project team will choose the projects they wish to complete during their visit, which will have material and local labour costs attached. Either the expedition team or the whole school can fundraise to cover this cost, which must be raised at least 4 weeks before departure.
