Fifteen Chef goes back to School
Prior’s Field parents and teachers were entertained to a Valentine’s themed cookery demonstration by Mark Baines, senior Sous chef at the famous Fifteen London restaurant founded by Jamie Oliver.
The night was organised by the school’s World Challenge team and was an opportunity for them to raise funds for their trip to Costa Rica in July 2010 where they will be taking part in a four week long expedition climbing volcanoes, trekking through the rainforest, doing a sea turtle conservation project and working with school children in the local community.

Mark taught the guests in the school’s impressive Food Technology facilities how to cook a number of inspiring and modern dishes including cauliflower risotto with poached egg and parmesan crisp, panfried duck breast with Savoy cabbage and wild mushrooms and lemon tart with blackberries. With the girls doing all the preparation of ingredients, cleaning and washing up the guests were able to enjoy the fun stuff of cooking and eating! The evening ended with dinner in the school’s famous and atmospheric Oak Hall.
Bag packing
Daniel Lane from Portsmouth saved some money by packing bags and getting a paper round."I am taking part in a First Challenge expedition to Romania. My local Sainsbury's supermarket in Farlington, Portsmouth have given me the opportunity to bag pack for their customers, so together with car washing and a paper round I am on my way to raising some of the money towards my expedition. I am really looking forward to the expedition as it is an opportunity for me to work as part of a team and gain practical outdoor skills. Planning and preparing for the trip over the next few months will give me confidence and inspire me to give everything on the expedition a go."
Sponsored bike ride
James Wenban from St George’s CE School organised a bike ride from Gravesend through Higham, Strood, Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham, Rainham, Newington, Sittingbourne, Teynsham, Ospringe and Favesham."It took us an overall time of 4 1/2 hours which was a lot quicker than I thought that we would do it and I raised a total of £654 sponsorship, which was more than I expected."

Guests dressed up as if they were going to Ascot and Ashley organised a champagne reception to get them in the mood and encourage them to spend money. The event was a great success and made a profit of £1900.Themed evening
Students from King Edward VI School, Southampton raised £2000 from hosting an Indian evening. The school was decorated in authentic Indian style and 220 guests enjoyed the delicious cuisine. During the evening the team waited on tables and held a presentation about their expedition.Fridge magnets
Jacob Moralee from Hitchin Boys School explains how he sold fridge magnets to raise funds.
“I bought 100 blank fridge magnets off ebay for £30. I added some of my photos along with some specially taken of friend's pets, kids and good views etc. They came out really well and I am selling them for £1.50 each. I have also booked a xmas craft stall and hope to sell loads there. For every 100 I sell, I make £120 profit.”
