Trekking Phase
There are many superb treks available in this region, many of which could be to areas that have hardly been visited before.  Whilst these treks will not be too demanding technically, they will be challenging physically and the teams may be able to see some dramatic scenery as they make their way past glaciers and mountains, some of which may never have been climbed.

Four trekking areas offer treks of up to 7 or 8 days:

Kyrgyz Range
The Ala Archa Valley within the Kyrgyz Mountain Range is only about 30km from the centre of Bishkek and there are various shorter and longer treks available in this area, from easier to more demanding and challenging routes. This can also be used for acclimatisation treks, with the possibility of walking on snow and glacier.

Terskey Alatau Range
The Terskey Alatau Range is in the east of the country and to the south of Karakol.  This is a stunningly beautiful area, reminiscent of Switzerland, with various peaks to climb during the trek along the valley floors and over numerous high altitude passes.  The area is dotted with hot springs, glaciers and alpine lakes and the range of treks is enormous. Most start from a beautiful town called Karakol by the east corner of the vast lake Issy-Kul nestled beneath the mountains.

Lake Song-Kul
This wide alpine lake, bare snow capped mountains and nomads on horse back in lush green pastures make this a perfect region for trekking and sampling a typical Kyrgyzstan lifestyle.

Project
Previous teams have been involved with community projects based in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek as well as school based projects that were focused more on cultural exchange. There are many orphanages needing renovation and teams can also organise sports / holiday activities for the orphans.

Rest and relaxation
Lake Issy-Kul is a great location to spend a couple of days relaxing on the shores, swimming and sunbathing; a real contrast to the previous phases in the snow peaked mountains. Or perhaps you could explore the cities, shop in their lively bazaars and visit the cultural and historical monuments or museums.
