Kenya Rift Valley

Acclimatisation phase
Many of the lake areas along the Rift Valley, offer wonderful possibilities for trekking and provide the opportunity to view Africa’s renowned animal and bird life close at hand. Options might include exploring Hell’s Gate National Parks or climbing Mount Longonot (2776m).

Trekking phase
Lying on either side of Kenya's magnificent Rift Valley are two unique and very different trekking areas: the Loita Hills, and the famous Abedares National Park. Ideally suited to a team who are more interested in cultural immersion than physical challenge, a trek in the Loita Hills offers the unique chance to walk alongside Masai warriors whilst enjoying the natural amphitheatre of the Loita Hills and the surrounding savannah grasslands and lush montane forests. Sitting between the Rift Valley and Mt Kenya, the Abedares offers a complete contrast - an oasis of wilderness in the middle of the heavily populated central highlands, with pristine rolling moorland, superb wildlife spotting opportunites, dramatic waterfalls and many peaks over 4000m, affording great views of Mt Kenya and the sweeping Rift Valley below.

Project phase
Much of the project work in Kenya focuses around improving school facilities in rural areas. Teams work alongside local charities to renovate classrooms or construct teachers accommodation.

Rest and relaxation phase
Teams will have the opportunity to visit some of Kenya’s beautiful National Parks in the Rift Valley. There is also the opportunity to spend a day white water rafting on the Tana River, although this would incur an additional cost. Many teams choose to take the overnight train to Mombasa and then spend a couple of days relaxing on a beautiful beach.
