Arrival in Ethiopia
Teams will fly in to Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, from where, after a day or half day of orientation they will then either fly north or head south overland, depending on which trek is chosen.

Main trekking phase on the Ethiopia expedition
Depending on which trekking phase is chosen, the team will either focus on Northern Ethiopia’s famed historical circuit or on Southern Ethiopia’s Rift Valley.

Heading north teams can chose between trekking in the dramatic Simien Mountains, where a 7-day supported trek taking in Ethiopia’s highest peak is possible (14-day itinerary only), or else explore the beautiful highland villages of the Mesket escarpment close to Lalibela, where a 4-day community based trek can be undertaken (10 or 14-day itineraries).

Heading south, the Bale Mountains form the focal point for exploration. Teams can undertake a 4 to 6-day trek on foot, or a 3 to 5-day horseback trek within 10 or 14-day itineraries. The Bale Mountains are one of Ethiopia’s lesser known gems with gorges, soaring peaks, and alpine lakes as well as abundant wildlife

Rest and relaxation in Ethiopia
For teams trekking in the Simien Mountains, the fabulous castles and palaces of Gonder (“Africa’s Camelot”) can be visited, as well as the fascinating island monasteries of Lake Tana. Teams trekking around the Mesket Escarpment can visit the World Heritage site of Lalibela, with its awe-inspiring churches hewn out of the rock.

For teams heading south on 14-day itineraries, there are opportunities for safaris in Nechisar National Park, one of East Africa’s most scenic but least visited Game Reserves, or (for teams on 10-day itineraries) safaris in Awash National Park (less than three hours drive from Addis Ababa) can be arranged.
