Educational School Expeditions

Over 25 years' experience gives us the global reach, vision, resources and people to deliver life-changing school expeditions.

Our dedicated regional staff expertly guide teams through an extensive build-up programme in preparation for their challenge. Through itinerary planning, training expeditions, fundraising and fitness activities, students are encouraged to develop the skills they will need on expedition such as communication, teamwork and organisation. We create bespoke educational programmes, tailored precisely to your team’s objectives, or a range of pre-crafted itineraries. With over 25 years' experience arranging student trips abroad, we cover a diverse range of environments, from the plains of Mongolia to the Amazon Rainforest, the deserts of Africa to the Cambodian jungle. We provide extensive back-up for teams on expedition, with 24-hr Operational Support, reliable satellite communications, medical provision and comprehensive insurance.

Challengers are supported on school trips by our people on the ground: outstanding Expedition Leaders make sure things run smoothly and safely, while our In-Country Agents provide local knowledge and contacts. In creating a safe environment for Challengers to explore the limits of their comfort zone, we allow them to grow in confidence and resourcefulness. They test their capabilities with physically arduous treks and adventure activities, develop a sense of global citizenship through rewarding project work and broaden their horizons at unforgettable remote locations and cultural sites. World Challenge’s expertise and high standards are reflected in our list of prestigious accreditations. We are actively engaged with key industry bodies, putting us at the forefront of good standards of practice.

World Challenge expeditions are designed to develop important life skills, helping students to:

  • Hone teamwork and leadership skills
  • Gain confidence and self-esteem
  • Become more globally aware
  • Enhance employment prospects

Expedition phases

Our school expeditions are arranged around five distinct phases. Planning & Preparation is student-led, from fundraising to fitness training and itinerary planning.

During the Acclimatisation phase, Challengers get to grips with their new environment with an introductory trek or practical task. They must draw on their physical resources and work as a team during the Trekking phase, reaching remote and beautiful locations. The rewarding Project phase involves community or conservation work with World Challenge partners on the ground. The Rest & Relaxation phase is a chance to unwind and enjoy cultural and adventure activities from visiting ancient temples to zip lining and white water rafting.
